Taxi

The amount of legal, licensed taxis exceeds more than 7,000 all over the city. Apart from the arranged taxis system at any major transport nodes (as Zuoying Station (HSR)), visitors are welcome to use the taxis services outside of hotels, restaurants and convenience stores in Kaohsiung.

KRTC-Kaohsiung Metro

There are 38 stations in total. Taiwan’s first light-rail system, located in Kaohsiung, began its trial runs 2015, allowing visitors to experience the beautiful sights of Asia’s New Bay Area, venues, hotels as well as tourist attractions.

Kaohsiung Light Rail

The first light rail in Taiwan has departed from Kaohsiung! The light rail vehicles in Kaohsiung are manufactured by the Spanish company CAF and feature a full-line power supply system without overhead lines, low platforms, and a 100% low-floor design.

City Buses

Kaohsiung has an extensive network of bus services, covering almost main roads, MRT stations, the city center, business areas and the tourist routes. Connected by KMRT lines, the bus services provide accessible, comfortable and low-carbon public transportation for all visitors.

YouBike

To promote a bicycle-friendly environment, Kaohsiung provides an excellent public bike system with a 24-hour rental services. Meanwhile, the rental stations are located along commuter and tourist lines. The city is actively constructing comprehensive bike paths to create a comfortable cycling network. All visitors get access to the use of the public bikes with an iPass card, which can also be used on both the KMRT and city buses.

Railway

Taiwan’s railway provides Kaohsiung with an important mode of public transportation, which connects all major cities. Since Kaohsiung serves as the terminus of the Western Line, where rail passengers get access to the awesome urban-rural scenery of Western Taiwan. In addition, the South-Link Railway links Kaohsiung in the West to Taitung in the East, allowing passengers to enjoy rural views and the beautiful longitudinal valleys of Eastern Taiwan along the way.

Domestic Transportation

If you arrive in Taiwan via the Taoyuan International Airport, you can get to Kaohsiung by Taiwan High Speed Rail or railway, which allows passengers to enjoy beautiful views along the way. The Taiwan HSR is a quick and easy way to get from the national capital Taipei to the southern city of Kaohsiung, only stopping in Taichung Station.

  • Relative Distance: 330/350 kilometers an hour
  • Taiwan High Speed Rail:
    From Taoyuan Station to Zuoying Station: about 1 hour and 40 minutes
    From Taipei Station to Zuoying Station: about 1 hour and 40 minutes
  • Taiwan Railway: approx. 4 hours

Taiwan High Speed Rail

Taiwan High Speed Rail operates 150 trains every day. It takes at most 100 minutes from Taipei to Kaohsiung with an average speed 250km/h an hour. On arrival at the Taoyuan International Airport, foreign passengers can get to Kaohsiung from Taoyuan Station within 100 minutes. All Kaohsiung-bound passengers shall get off at Zuoying Station.

International Transportation

Foreign passengers arriving at the Taiwan at Taoyuan Airport and Kaohsiung International Airport may get to Kaohsiung by other transportation systems. Taoyuan Airport is an international airport and Kaohsiung International Airport is local airport specially for Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea and Mainland China.
