The Kaohsiung City Government and the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) joined hands to invest in and organize a massive-scaled performance of light and shadows. After a 20-year hiatus, the year 2022 finally oversaw the return of the Taiwan Lantern Festival in Kaohsiung. With the theme “Glow in Kaohsiung, Shine on Taiwan, and Light Up the World,” the 2022 Taiwan Lantern Festival was held at both Love River Bay and Weiwuying, in combination with two national landmarks, namely the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) as well as Kaohsiung Music Center. This makes the 2022 Taiwan Lantern Festival the largest lantern festival ever held in Taiwan.

The conceptual organization of the event took a comprehensive account of all land, sea, and air dimensions available at the venues. In addition to a performance artfully presented by 1500 drones flying over the Love River Bay, the event also involved a brand new 360-degree lantern-watching experience, made possible through 5G technology. By combining technology and culture, the 2022 Taiwan Lantern Festival managed to present a new and innovative joint-performance mode executed at various spots in the venues. The event was attended by more than ten million people, formulating a magical and unforgettable experience.
